From Registered Nurse to Chiropractor: The Story Behind New Journey Chiropractic

After more than a decade as a registered nurse, Dr. Jayme never expected her son’s health journey to change the direction of her life. That experience led her to chiropractic care, a new career, and the founding of New Journey Chiropractic.

Tell us your story.

Sometimes the greatest journeys begin in the hardest seasons.

Before I ever became a chiropractor, I spent more than a decade as a registered nurse. I believed in medicine, evidence, and caring for people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Nursing taught me compassion, critical thinking, and how important it is to truly listen to patients.

Then I became a mom.

When my son Bradley was young, he struggled with recurring ear infections, developmental delays, and speech challenges. Like many parents, we did everything we were told to do. We saw specialists, followed recommendations, and searched for answers. Despite our efforts, we still felt like something was missing.

My brother-in-law suggested chiropractic care.

To be honest, I was skeptical. As a nurse, chiropractic wasn't something I knew much about. But when you're a parent watching your child struggle, you'll do whatever you can to help them.

Within six weeks of beginning chiropractic care, I watched my son change in ways I never expected. He began meeting milestones. His speech improved. He became more engaged with the world around him. It wasn't just one symptom that changed... it was him.

That experience changed me forever.

It made me realize that the nervous system plays a much bigger role in health than I had ever understood. It challenged everything I thought I knew and inspired me to pursue a new calling.

I left my nursing career and went back to school to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.

Today, I combine the clinical experience I gained as a registered nurse with neurologically focused chiropractic care to help families find hope when they feel like they've run out of options. I believe parents deserve to be heard, educated, and empowered, not simply told to "wait and see."

New Journey Chiropractic was built on that belief.

Our office isn't just about relieving pain. It's about helping babies thrive, supporting healthy pregnancies, empowering children to reach their potential, helping parents regain their health, and creating healthier families from the inside out.

Every family has a story.

Some are looking for relief from pain. Others are searching for answers after months or years of frustration. Many simply want to give their children the healthiest start possible.

No matter where you are on your journey, I want you to know this:

There is hope.

It would be an honor to walk alongside your family and help you write the next chapter of your story.

Hope. Health. Healing.

How did your business begin?

New Journey Chiropractic was born from a journey I never expected to take.

As I prepared to open my own practice, something unexpected happened. I woke up in the middle of the night with the name "New Journey Chiropractic" clearly on my heart. I wasn't searching for a business name or making a list of ideas. I simply knew this was the name I had been given. Looking back, I believe it perfectly reflects what this practice is all about.

Every person who walks through our doors is beginning a new journey. Some are looking for relief from pain. Others are searching for answers after months or years of frustration. Many simply want to live healthier lives and give their children the best possible start.

Today, New Journey Chiropractic exists to provide hope, health, and healing through neurologically focused chiropractic care. My goal is for every patient to feel heard, cared for, and empowered as we work together toward better health.

Helping families begin their own new journey is the greatest privilege of my career.

What makes your business unique?

At New Journey Chiropractic, we believe that every patient deserves to be heard, understood, and cared for as an individual, not just treated for a symptom.

What makes our practice unique is our neurologically focused approach to chiropractic care. Rather than simply asking, "Where does it hurt?" we work to understand how the nervous system is functioning and how that may be affecting the body's ability to heal and adapt.

As both a registered nurse and a Doctor of Chiropractic, I bring experience from two healthcare professions. That background allows me to approach each patient with an appreciation for collaborative, evidence-informed care while also recognizing the body's incredible ability to heal when the nervous system is functioning at its best.

We care for patients of all ages, but we have a special passion for serving babies, children, pregnant women, and families. From newborns experiencing feeding challenges or colic to expectant mothers preparing for birth and adults seeking better health, our goal is to provide gentle, personalized care that supports the whole family.

We also believe education is just as important as treatment. We take the time to explain what we find, answer questions, and help patients understand their health so they can make confident decisions for themselves and their families.

At the heart of everything we do is our mission: to bring hope, health, and healing to every family we serve. We don't just want patients to feel better. We want them to live healthier, fuller lives.

What has been your biggest challenge?

One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to balance being a healthcare provider with being a business owner.

As a chiropractor, my passion is caring for patients and helping families improve their health. As a business owner, I'm also responsible for leading a team, managing operations, making financial decisions, developing systems, and ensuring the practice continues to grow. Those are very different roles, and learning to wear both hats has been one of the greatest learning experiences of my career.

Like many small business owners, I've also learned that growth isn't just about seeing more patients. It's about building strong systems, developing an incredible team, and creating a culture where every patient has an exceptional experience from the moment they walk through our doors.

While those challenges haven't always been easy, they've made me a better leader. They have taught me the importance of surrounding myself with the right people, continuing to learn, and never losing sight of why I started New Journey Chiropractic in the first place.

Every challenge has strengthened my commitment to serving our community and helping more families experience hope, health, and healing.

What achievement are you most proud of?

Without question, the achievement I am most proud of is the impact New Journey Chiropractic has had on the families we serve.

Watching a baby finally become comfortable, seeing a child reach a milestone their parents have been praying for, helping an expectant mother feel more confident during pregnancy, or seeing someone return to the activities they love—those are the moments that remind me why I do what I do.

On a personal level, I'm incredibly proud that I had the courage to follow a calling that completely changed the direction of my life. Leaving a successful career in nursing to return to school and start a chiropractic practice was one of the biggest risks I've ever taken. It required faith, perseverance, and a willingness to begin again.

Today, when I look around the office and see families who trust us with their care, I don't see a business... I see lives that have been touched, relationships that have been built, and a community that continues to grow.

That is the achievement I'm most proud of, and it's one I never take for granted.

What advice would you give aspiring entrepreneurs?

Know your "why," because there will be days when it's the only thing that keeps you moving forward.

Starting a business is exciting, but it's also one of the hardest things you'll ever do. There will be setbacks, long hours, difficult decisions, and moments when you question yourself. If your motivation is only financial, those challenges can become overwhelming. But if your business is rooted in purpose, you'll find the strength to keep going.

Don't be afraid to start before you have everything figured out. You'll learn far more by taking the first step than by waiting for the perfect moment.

Be willing to ask for help, continue learning, and surround yourself with people who challenge you to grow. Success doesn't happen alone.

Most importantly, remember that people matter more than profits. If you genuinely care about serving others with excellence, build trust, and stay true to your values, your business will become more than a place of work... it will become a place that changes lives.

Stay humble, stay teachable, and never lose sight of the reason you started.

What are you excited about right now?

I'm excited about the future of New Journey Chiropractic and the opportunity to reach even more families in our community.

Every day, we're seeing more people discover what neurologically focused chiropractic care can offer, and it's exciting to watch families experience hope and healing together. Seeing parents become empowered, children thrive, and entire families prioritize their health is incredibly rewarding.

I'm also excited about continuing to grow both personally and professionally. I'm currently pursuing advanced education in chiropractic pediatrics because I believe our patients deserve the very best care possible. Learning never stops, and I want to continue bringing that knowledge back to the families we serve.

Looking ahead, I'm excited about expanding our impact beyond the walls of our office through community outreach, education, and partnerships that make quality care more accessible. My vision has always been bigger than a single practice. I want New Journey Chiropractic to be a place where families find hope, healing, and a community that truly supports them.

The best part is that I feel like we're just getting started.
